This 8 week adult group therapy experience will provide brief education and training in a selection of somatic practices to encourage free-flow of emotional energy as well as offer space for participants to explore challenging emotional terrain with each other and the group leader. If you have been struggling to metabolize a particularly painful aspect of your experience (and maybe you notice it showing up in your body), or desire to learn more about how your body can be a resource for healing, this is the group for you.

More about somatic therapy: Ancient healing traditions have always known, and modern neuroscience increasingly demonstrates, there is no separation between the mind, body, and our emotions. In a culture that prioritizes hustle and productivity, opportunities to slow down and mindfully attend to our emotional lives under the surface can feel few and far between. Because the body is the expression of the unconscious mind, unexpressed emotion can become trapped in our bodies, creating dysregulation and draining precious energy. Somatic practices, such as mindfulness, meditation, breathwork, and intuitive movement, break the cycle of dissociation and escape, bring us home to our bodies. This allows for the release of stagnant emotion, triggering a cascade of physiological responses which repair the nervous system and awaken the natural confidence that comes from feeling good in your body.

More about group therapy: There are two types of therapy groups: content and process. While this group will impart content (each session will begin with a somatic practice), the group is primarily a process group, meaning the therapeutic effect emerges from the interpersonal interactions within the group. As relationships serve as mirrors, the group acts as a microcosm of the world, illuminating things like attachment styles, protective mechanisms, and shadow selves. Under the skilled direction of the group leader, members gain interpersonal insight, a sense of acceptance and belonging, and increased trust in themselves and others. Just as trauma happens in relationships, so does healing.

Other important information: There are no prerequisites for this group. This group will be beneficial whether you are an experienced somatic practitioner or entirely new to these practices, as much of the therapeutic benefit lies in the gift of each participant's unique presence and contributions. An intake is required to ensure a safe and rewarding experience for all and space is limited to 8 participants. This is a closed group so no new members will be accepted after 10/14. The space where we will meet at Nourish Collaborative is spacious, warm, and inviting with all necessary props to support the work.

Cost: $500 (including intake, 8 week commitment)
